Students
Welcome to Christchurch Durham!
Christchurch is a friendly and lively city centre church with a history of involvement with students. Around 200 students join us on Sundays and we welcome those who want to investigate Christianity for themselves as well as Christians wanting to know how to follow Jesus as students. Our aim is to know Jesus and make Him known. Many students come to Christchurch while they are in Durham - British and International, undergraduates and post grads, and people from all kinds of denominational backgrounds.
At Christchurch we take our pastoral care of students seriously. We want to do all we can to ensure that your time at University is a time where you are strengthened in faith, challenged by God's word and equipped to serve Jesus for a lifetime. The student staff are here to help you settle in and make you feel welcomed. We have a male and female student worker and 10 associates working especially with students. Contact our student workers Sam Dickinson and Amy Soullier if you have any questions or would like any information.
There are many ways you can be involved as a student... Scroll down for more information!
Sunday @ 7
Sunday @ 7 is our regular student service on Sunday at, you guessed it, 7pm. We meet in the Town Hall, Market Square, which is within walking distance of all the colleges. Hearing God speak through the Bible and responding is our aim at each service, along with meeting with other believers as brothers and sisters in Christ. The atmosphere is relaxed, with contemporary music and hot puddings served after the service.
FOCUS
FOCUS is our midweek student Bible study on Thursday evenings in the Town Hall. We meet together in small groups to read the Bible and pray together. FOCUS is a great way to make friends at Christchurch, as well as to be challenged to live for Jesus wholeheartedly.
Foundations
Foundations runs alongside FOCUS on a Thursday evening in the Town Hall. However, the format is slightly different. If you are new to the Christian faith, or would like to find out what it means to live as a Christian, then Foundations could be for you.
Christianity Explored
Christianity Explored is a short course for anyone who is not a Christian and would like to investigate the Christian faith. If you are a Christian and you know of a friend who would be interested in this then come along with them. We listen to a short talk together and then meet around tables to discuss. The atmosphere is very informal and non-intimidating.
We have a new course beginning on Monday the 23rd January. For more information or to sign up, please follow the link below.
The Mid-Year Conference
Once a year we venture over to the Lake District for an end of term retreat, where we have fun, relax and receive some great teaching on a topic in the Bible. Many students have found this an invaluable time for making friends and getting stuck in at church.
Adopt a Student
All students have the opportunity to sign up to be 'adopted' by members of our local church family here at Christchurch. This is a great chance to get to know older Christians, to be well fed with home cooked food, and to have some time outside of the student bubble!
One-to-one
Many students meet with either an older student or a member of the church family to read the Bible, pray and share lives together. A good way to build a deep friendship as well as be accountable to each other in the Christian life. If you would be interested, please contact Sam Dickinson
