Support the growing ministry of Christchurch Durham

 

Christchurch Durham is a city centre church strategically placed to bring the gospel of Jesus to students. We aim to reach out to the thousands of students in Durham who do not know Christ, to build up Christian students in the gospel and to see many sent out after Durham equipped for a lifetime of Christian service.

 

The background

Christchurch is an Anglican Evangelical Church in the centre of Durham reaching students and those living locally. We thank God that over the years the number of students coming to Christchurch has grown significantly. The Christchurch Trust is a registered charity providing a means by which supporters of Christchurch can give in order to promote evangelism, Bible teaching and pastoral support amongst students in Durham. We aim to reach more students with the gospel and to expand our Ministry Training Scheme, training gospel workers for a lifetime of gospel work over a two year ‘Associateship' at Christchurch after they leave university. We also want to establish a fund to support Associates who leave us after their training to go to theological college, to prepare for a lifetime of gospel ministry.

 

The current ministry

We currently have around 200 students attending our meetings. We aim to reach out through Christianity Explored and other events put on for people to hear the truth about Jesus Christ. We aim to build up Christians through our Sunday meetings, FOCUS, Mid Year Conference and the various other meetings we run. We aim to send out workers and are thrilled to see large numbers heading off each year to apprenticeships in the UK and overseas. The ministry to students now has a number of Student Workers and Associates, and we need to raise money to cover their costs.

 

The need

Our Student Ministry currently costs us approximately £180,000 per annum. The long-term city congregation of Christchurch is growing and, whilst they give generously, the burden of supporting a Student Ministry on top of our regular work needs to be spread more widely. For this reason we are hoping that other partners in the gospel, including many former Durham graduates, may want to give to Christchurch in order to support our work amongst Durham students. We are looking for large as well as small gifts. If just 100 supporters gave £25 a month by standing order, we would receive £30,000 to support the ongoing costs of student work at Christchurch.

Please pray that God would use this Trust Fund to achieve his purpose in Durham through it. Pray also for monies to be raised, and the right workers in the next few years to be appointed.
